FISCAL SPONSORSHIPS

A fiscal sponsorship is an agreement between an unincorporated group or project and a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that provides the former with the benefits of tax exempt status. This partnership is interactive with the 501 (c) (3) or Foundation providing back-office support along with having access to “tax exempt” status.

The organization is expected to maintain regular contact with the MCF. This can be done via email, telephone, and meetings. The MCF will provide monthly reports to the organization, identifying income and expense for each month.   Fees are posted quarterly.

Donors may contribute through the MCF and receive a tax deduction. All checks must be made payable to the Montrose Community Foundation.

When the organization holds public events, the MCF should be acknowledged in their advertising and media. The Foundation staff are also available to provide support and assistance in consultation regarding any event.

There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.

The MCF will provide organization information on Foundation web site as well as a link from Foundation website to organization web site. Online one-time or recurring donations can also be made to Fiscal Sponsorship funds through the MCF website.

This program is intended to help build capacity and to assist the organizations as they pursue sustainability and eventually obtain their own non-profit status, if appropriate.
